Christmas Cake

I really hate single use appliances and bakeware, so when I found a Wilton cake pan that makes a checkerboard pattern inside I really couldn't justify buying it. But it went on sale at Michaels a while later, and since I had a 50% off coupon I figured "why not." For $7.00 it's worth it; besides, look at all the cute occasions when it can be used!" On the side of the box was the cutest cake. It had Christmas cookies on top and Christmas trees on the side, and red, white, and green checkers on the inside. It was so cute I couldn't wait to make it!

So, for Christmas this year I copied the cake on the side of the pan box, and it turned out so adorable! The snowman and trees on top are decorated sugar cookies that I made with a dowel in the middle so they can stand upright on the cake. Completely edible! For the inside I made checkers in red, white, and green. I love the way it turned out and cannot wait for the opportunity to use the pan again :)

I wish I would have gotten a better picture of the inside of the cake. I used a dull butter-knife to make the cut so the frosting smeared and it looked sloppy. After these initial few cuts I found a sharp knife and it looked must "crisper" on the inside, but I forgot to take another photo.

Air Force Cake

I made this cake for my brother before he left for basic training in the Air Force. It was buttercream on the outside and chocolate and vanilla checkerboard on the inside.

A Little Birdie Told Me... It's Your Birthday!

I saw this cute idea for cupcakes a couple months ago and have been waiting for a chance to make them ever since! So I was really excited when I remembered I was the birthday buddy to one of my co-workers. Perfect opportunity to make these cupcakes! The cake was white almond sour cream. The big birds were filled with raspberry filling and the little birdies were filled with lemon.

Here is a photo of the full display. The bad lighting (sorry! I took these photos at night and forgot to take better pics in the morning) makes it kinda hard to tell, but the top says "A Little Birdie Told Me...." and on the side it says "It's Your Birthday!"

This photo shows a close up of the cute little party hats. I made these out of fondant.

Close up shot of the raspberry filling inside.

John Deere Tractor Cake

Another 3rd birthday party! This cake was a double layer 10 inch square. Pineapple flavored cake with buttercream and fresh strawberries inside. My favorite part of this cake was the grass, which was a last minute addition!

Angry Birds Cake

I just realized that I do a lot of 3rd birthday cakes! This one was for my son's best friend, which, by the way, I think it is so cute that 3 year olds have best friends! :) The cake was a 10 inch square- chocolate with raspberry filling. The cupcakes were vanilla with buttercream frosting, and were a hit with the kiddos. It seems like kids always prefer cupcakes over cake...must have something to do with being tiny that makes them more appealing.

Angry Bird Cupcakes:

My favorite cupcake was the green piggy one. He just looks so adorable!

I never even realized that angry birds existed before last month when I was told it was going to be the party theme. It's so crazy how kids pick up on things though because we have never watched angry birds or played the game, but my son now has a fascination with all things angry birds! He even wanted angry birds bandaids! Every time we go to the store- "Angry Birrrrds!" Apparently the game is a big hit right now.

Anniversary Cake

I made this cake for a 10 year anniversary party. Here is a sketch I drew beforehand:

And here is the final cake after I finished...

Another photo in different lighting..

It turned out pretty much the way I imagined it would, except for the addition of the flower in the bottom left corner.

The cake was 3 tier and all double layers. The bottom tie was a 10 inch square, white cake with fresh strawberries. Middle tier was 8 inch square, lemon cake with lemon curd filling, and the top tier was a 6 inch square, chocolate cake with chocolate fudge filling.
